Wonderful Wine Tour

An excellent wine tour deserves to be immortalized in pictures! Ted Brough captured these very nice images on the recent Del Skoog planned outing.

The first scene shows some of the participating cars at our meeting place, the Mobil gas station on Highway 79. It appears, at this time, that we had no idea that the turnout was going to be one of the greatest in the history of this event. The 1800S belongs to Ted, and in the background is Dave Hunt’s 120.

If you are wondering about the popularity of this tour, take a look at the picture below. This is the Filsinger Winery, our first stop on the tour, and, yes, they are all Volvos – eleven of them! They also have a nice picnic area just to the left of the building, where we had our picnic on the 1998 wine tour.

The modest parking lot is full of Volvos at the brand Palumbo Family Vineyard and Winery. This was an extremely friendly place, totally run by the young family. We gained a lot of knowledge here about the ongoing battle with the Glassy Winged Sharpshooter, which is devastating some of the vineyards in the Temecula Valley.

Below is an interior shot of the Falkner Winery tasting room, formerly the Temecula Crest Winery. It is not very crowded with Volvinos, since most of them were out on the grounds, unpacking their picnic lunches. In the foreground by the bar, you see the diehard writer, working his way through the sample list.
