120/1800 STEERING BOX REBUILD...

Our monthly event of Sunday, July 18, is a Tech Session at Bob Workman's European Auto repair facility.  Bob has kindly consented to share his know-how of rebuilding our steering boxes. If you want to "rebuild along" with Bob, here is an illustration, and a list of parts and sources provided by Bob Skoog, for you to successfully complete the "course."                                                                                             By Goran Freske

This and That                                      By Kurt Sievert

At the last few meetings of SDVSA, we've been talking about the parts we'll need to overhaul our steering boxes. At the suggestion of Bob Skoog, who has experience with these boxes, we'11 be needing the parts listed above. The total cost from Volvo was $85.20 and from Lii Montgomery was $12.00, for a total of $97.20. The parts arrived within a week. At the steering box overhaul session scheduled for July 18th at Bob Workman's European Auto, we'll probably only be able to do a few boxes. I'm also not sure how successful our overhauls will be. It's going to vary, depending on how badly worn the boxes are. In my case, I need a company of marines to help me turn the wheel, so I need to go for it. If need be, I'll get another used box from one of the parts sources listed in SEES magazine.
