SWEDISH SPEED and the PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY RACES

Saturday March 27, 1999

[By David Hunt]

What a great time! Many great Volvos met at Swedish Speed in Ferris CA to begin this gala event.

First we had the grand tour of Swedish Speed's Volvo repair/restoration facility led by co-owner Mark Yarbrough, all 12,000 square feet of it.

After a little story tel1ing, the Volvo's were lined-up in parade fashion to caravan to the Perris Auto Speedway just a few miles away.

   A 444, P1900, 1800, 1800ES, C70 and S80 were displayed just inside the entrance.

The remaining Volvos were parked as a group just outside the main gate. They included a 144, V70, two S70's, four 1800ES's, and eight 1800's.

Our group re-assembled inside where we were greeted by InIand Empire Volvo who provided us with a raffle ticket and a fine buffet dinner.

Inland Empire Volvo was represented by general manager Orie Mann, parts manager Marty Vanderham and service manager Joe Merrit.

Our celebrity for the evening was a Volvo master (his humbleness) Art Banks with his gracious guest Linda.

In attendance were sixty-five guests including Orange County and San Diego Volvo VSA Club members.

After having our fill of fine vittles, the raffle was held with many prizes including a Volvo jacket donated by Inland Empire Volvo.

With the raffle concluded, we proceeded as a group to our reserved "50 yard line" spectator seats to watch the main event.

The mini truck and stock car races were filled with exciting moments with spinouts, tire blow outs, engine blow-ups and much, much more!

A very special thanks to our gracious hosts Swedish Speed and Inland Empire Volvo and to the event coordinator David Hunt for a job well done.
