Swap Meet Update-

[By Gene Bellegarde]

SDVSA held another of it's ultra successful swap meets at the Ski Beach Water Park in Mission Bay. As usual, all the Volvo guys were fashionably late, so as to keep with our long-held tradition. One couple showed up bright and early, and best as I could tell, bought the only set of new 1800 door opening body seals that were offered at the meet. The reason that this particular couple, in a mid-series coupe, were so punctual, was that they have to take their nice 100 pound male German Shepherd out for runs at the beach before 9am, when the curfew is in effect. The Event Director was able to save some grass-front spaces by placing out tables, chairs, parts for sale, and his own rump out on adjacent parking spots, much to the chagrin of the volleyball teams that showed up l/2 hour later.

So, the event progressed as usual from there. Our members, and other curious onlookers kept streaming in all day long, some unknown enthusiast got the brand new boxed set of speedo/tach for a 'Jenson' car for the $30 asking price.

There were lots of other good deals, too, of such items as tires, wheels, interior panels, overdrive transmissions, early and late version grille surrounds, man you name it, it was there for sale. About the only thing Not Sold was the new in box Weber downdraught I offered for $150. Maurice Blais tried his best to buy it, but all he needed was some adjustment to his far superior Skinner Union's, which I'm not sure he got. I also tried to steer him toward Ric Von Neumann for his newly re bushed SU's, but I don't think the deal went down.

At the conclusion of the horseshoe tourney, Russ and Gene are still the champs, but Goran and Jim presented a good challenge, especially that leaner that didn't fall for the ringer.

After we all drank refreshments from 'the Club', we fired up .the Barbie and served burgers and dogs to all those still present and standing.

I did want to make this column complete by noting that Jim Barnes was in attendance, and in a Volvo. Ask him how!
