Skoog now provides parts and repair for P1800 overdrives By Jeff Perry SDVSA member Bob Skoog, and his partner Lester, have announced their service for the recondition and repair of Laycock de Normanville D & J Type overdrives, which was a factory installed option on the Volvo P1800, and other classic cars. Bob has established himself as a distributor with an English overdrive parts company. This company, which includes a retired Laycock Service Engineer, has acquired the original production machinery and tooling for producing parts for D/J-type overdrive units. With his distributorship Bob can now offer replacement parts, built to factory specifications, for Laycock de Normanville overdrives. In addition to replacement parts, Bob and Lester are setup to repair and recondition Laycock overdrives and Volvo M40/41 gearboxes. To ensure that a unit is thoroughly tested and ready for reinstallation, a custom stand has been developed to dynamically test, under load, an overdrive and/or gearbox while removed from the vehicle. During unit testing, both oil pressure and output-speed are monitored for correct operation. Typically, a worn, but not damaged, overdrive will have the following parts replaced: bearings, clutch lining, o-rings, oil seals, check valve, and gaskets. |
Additional parts may be replaced, depending on the unit’s condition. Moreover, only the highest quality bearings are used.
Turnaround time, from a unit’s arrival to its reshipment, is no longer than three weeks. The actual time is dependent on the condition of the overdrive unit, and the parts required. All repairs include a 30-day warranty on parts and labor. Actual pricing will vary, based on the condition of the unit. |
