was his wife who had been driving. Enough said. Otherwise the day was warm, calm and relaxing, filled with fun, games, conversation and Volvo-speak. I am so grateful to get away for a while and talk to people who don't do what I do and have a chance to talk about things other than what I talk about during the work week. I know Julia feels the same way. Those of you who didn't make it this time were missed. I like it when lots of different people show up. I like it when people bring their families and friends and especially the kids. I'm teaching Rich's kids all the corny "G rated" jokes I know. I can only hope they enjoy it as much as I do and that their parents don't feel that I am doing them any permanent damage. I can't wait for the next trip and I Hope to see some of you in Culver City on the 13th of June. Maybe I'll be able to get the rest of the mud off my wheels by then. There is one other bit of information I want to share with you before I close. I read Kurt Sievert's "This and That" column in the last newsletter with great interest. I was a teenager in the 60s when "The Saint" was on television and I think that is when I first fell in love with 1800s before I actually saw one in the flesh. I started to think that if Bob Skoog came across those tapes somewhere, then there must be others. I had some free time on Memorial Day weekend so I started hunting around. It was easy to find what I believe is the four volume set that Kurt viewed. It can be purchased through Blockbuster Video or any other large retailer that special orders and sells videos. They're around $14.95 each. Blockbuster rents them too, but the closest store to me that has them is in Los Angeles County so I started calling various local video rental stores in Orange County. |
I found a store in Tustin that had one copy of what the clerk believed was volume two of "The Saint." He had no explanation as to what happened to volume one. I asked the clerk to hold on to it for me--Iike anyone else would grab it up before I got there-- not a problem. We had to dust off the box to read the cover. Sure enough it was indeed Roger Moore as "The Saint", but it was not Polygram Video. It was U.S.A. Home Video and labeled as "Sybil Danning's Adventure Video". Sybil is on the tape and introduces the two episodes. From the looks of her I think she may have had a career in making other kinds of videos not suitable for all audiences. The two episodes on the tape are "The Counterfeit Countess" and "Escape Route". The Saint's Volvo is in both episodes. A lot! Way more than it apparently is in the four volume set that Bob found. So perhaps a little detective work is in order for those of you that may enjoy that sort of thing. There may be even more tapes out there of which we are still unaware. Check your local Mom and Pop video stores. Blockbuster has a number you can call to find out if and where tapes are available in your area. Call 1-800-800-6767. Tell them you are looking for the television show "The Saint" with Roger Moore nQt. the movie with Val Kilmer. You'll get tired of saying that. Many of the people you will speak to weren't born when Roger Moore played "The Saint" and don't know there was ever a TV series before the movie that had absolutely no 1800's in it. Why was that?
