As young, I would rather drive specialty cars, as for instance the Hirondel. It was not until 1962 when I decided to start driving common, series production cars. In 1962, the Jaguar "E-type" XK-E was totally new. Obviously, The Saint should ride British! But for various reasons, no E-type was ready for delivery. I therefore turned to Volvo, who quickly supplied a P1800. And, with that, Volvo's fortune was made.
How much did Volvo have to pay for this advertisement, with my good name worth millions? Answer: Nothing! On the contrary, I had to pay full price for the car (and more to follow). As a sports car, it was nothing to brag about, only prestige. But it was a real magnet when it came to the dames. A magnet you couldn't really call my new car, a Volvo C70 turbo coupé. But, a 2.4 liter, five cylinder, turbo-motor with 230 hp. isn't too shabby. And with an Alpine three CD, 12-speaker, Dolby Surround, Pro-Logic stereo system maybe I can still get a bite from a beautiful dame. |
