At the beginning of our June monthly activity, the 10th
Annual Menghini Wine Party and Horseshoe Tournament, a Volvo 1800
and a Bertone decided to mate in the parking lot at Coco's restaurant
in Escondido.
The Bertone escaped virtually unscathed. The 1800
on-the-other-hand sustained some crucial damage.
The right turn signal lens was annihilated, the grill
surround was beyond repair, and the fan somehow ripped the bottom
of the radiator tank and came to rest with one blade bent at a
right angle and lodged in the tank.
An emergency call went out immediately to Bob Workman
at his home for a replacement radiator. Shortly thereafter Bob,
the 1800 owner, and a fellow club member arrived at Bob's shop
in Vista. The two Menghini goers picked-up the replacement radiator
and headed back to Coco's.
The owner said that he had plenty of tools to complete
the necessary repairs. So, the fellow helper proceeded onward
to the Volvo event. About two hours after the incident occurred,
the 1800 owner drove up with his repaired vehicle. He later explained
that he had replaced the radiator and hammered the fan blades
back into shape.
