1st annual DR VOLVO SPECIALIST all Volvo meet
Fountain Valley, California  May 2, 1999

[By David Hunt]

WOW!  What an event

At 8am the cars started rolling in and by 10arn twenty-nine Volvo beauties were all lined up ready to be judged.

The ten dollar entry fee was a real bargain that included a gift bag worth $20.00 in merchandise, a lunch coupon, and five raffle tickets.

There were tours of the facility that included twelve service bays and a 6,000 sq. ft. used and rebuilt parts warehouse.

On display was a C70 cabaret and a S80 sedan courtesy of Irvine Volvo.

Also on display was a 1993 940 outfitted for camping with a Thule roof rack, a custom sleeping mattress and special cargo containers courtesy of Jerry Fair owner of the DR Volvo Specialist.

Another Volvo of interest was a 1983 metallic blue 240T with a very professional 1990 5.0 liter HO Ford V8 engine conversion owned by Ed Geiger.

There was plenty of food that included hot dogs, sodas, donuts, coffee, and free popcorn.

The raffle tickets were five for a dollar and the drawings went on all day with $1500 worth of prizes.

A $100 bill was donated by Steve Metcalf of Ramac Parts Supply and a $50 bill was donated  by S. J. Bizal of European Parts Incorporated.

Valvoline donated many prizes including several jackets. IPD in Oregon and Swedish Speed in Perris were also contributors.

Jerry Fair of the DR Volvo Specialist contributed a large portion of the raffle prizes.

The judging coordinator was David Hunt president of  the Orange County Volvo Club.

A big debt of gratitude goes to the following judges whose performance was outstanding in judging  29 cars in 16 categories:

Bob Berglund National Vo1vo Sports America president and editor of the National Volvo magazine 'SEES'.

Bill Webb Editor of the Volvo Sports America Western Slates magazine and board member of Volvo Sports America.

Art Banks Owner of an award winning Master's Class Volvo and board member of Volvo Sports America.

Karl Grimm Owner of an award winning Master's Class Volvo and board member of Volvo Sports America.

Tony Smith Owner of all award winning Master's Class Volvo.

Russel Lewis President of Volvos-R-Us.

Mark Yarbrough Co-owner of Swedish Speed in Perris, an independent Volvo repair and restoration facility.
