It was proposed at the February 11 SDVSA general meeting that we should try a Sunday Brunch instead of a dinner meeting, since that wasn't too successful in January. What do you think? Stay tuned. We are getting closer to having our logo scanned and entered on a computer disc so we can start printing membership and windshield cards again -- and even T-shirts. If any of you have ideas of what you would like to see as far as designs that incorporate the logo in a two-sided T-shirt, let your club know. (A tiny version of the logo is shown on the last page). Bob Skoog's 50/50 raffle was won by Allan Blair, who, unfortunately, was not in attendance to gather up his very substantial winnings of $37.50. Now is the time for you to be at the next meeting and try your luck! February's event, the Temecula Wine Tour, on Saturday 21, was a smashing success. We equaled last year's attendance for this great get-together, and, although the weather was not as nice, we had a very enjoyable tour of three wineries and lunch on the Filsinger Winery patio. Scott Harrison will have a complete rundown in the April issue of 1800 NEWS. Jim Barnes, our new SDVSA representative to the San Diego Auto Museum Car Club Council, has an introductory statement for all our members on page 8. Jim, being the enthusiastic car nut that he is, will do an excellent job of keeping us informed about the goings-on in the rest of the auto hobbyists world. The upcoming event for March, on Sunday 22, is the gathering at Wheels 'n' Wings of the SDVSA and the Los Angeles contingent of Western States VSA ! |
But also, Greg Blake and Dave Hunt have planned a "Wilderness Tour" for the consummate driving enthusiasts of both chapters, details of which can be found on the next page. There is also a map on page 3 of the planned route and the final destination, if you want to skip the nature drive. They have put a lot of effort into this, so let's plan to support them and our club with a great turn-out! See you at the Beacon gas station on La Paz at 8:15 a.m. on the 22nd! The desert is already blooming profusely, according to my spies, so maybe we will decide at the general meeting on March 11 to move our Bloomin ' Desert Drive up to the last weekend in March instead of our usual April date. Don't be surprised if you receive a 'phone call on the 25th or 26th telling you that we are ready to venture forth into the wonderful world of desert wildflowers! Details are found on page 4. Then there is a big Volvo-to-do in Tempe, Arizona, on April 4. You can read about the plans for the "40th Anniversary of the P1900" on page 5. This idea, developed by Dave Hunt and Randall Pace, grew from just a meeting of two P1900s into a big event, even attracting sponsorship by Volvo Cars of North America! It is amazing how simple little inspirations can develop into great things, and maybe we should all learn a lesson from this. We are still looking for stories about YOUR car, general interest articles, and some more and new free ads to be published in your newsletter! Always remember, YOU ARE THE SDVSA CLUB ! |
