We finally had a winner of Bob Skoog's 50/50 raffle at our last general meeting on May 13. Jim Barnes, our SDVSA representative to the Auto Museum Car Club Council, won the very impressive sum of $54.00! Being an avid supporter of our club, and having won another sizable 50/50 raffle just last June, Jim was kind enough to donate all the money back to our club! Many thanks to Jim from the rest of the membership! Speaking about money, which nobody likes to do, our treasurer, Bob Skoog, reported at the last meeting that the expenses of the SDVSA amounted to $1,087, whereas the income was only about $823 for 1997. Rather than raising our annual membership fees (they have been $15 since 1980!), we are trying to raise needed funds by the 50/50 raffle, and by selling products that are of value to the members, and other Volvo nuts. Products already on hand are the top quality polishing cloths ($1 ea. or 5 for $4), a few beautiful Volvo books, and odds and ends from the VSA West Coast Meet held in San Diego in 1994 and sponsored by the SDVSA. If you are interested in any of these, contact Russ at (619)565-8034. We are planning to make new T-shirts, hats, and window stickers, and a few other surprises, and we welcome any ideas which our members may have for different items. Any other thoughts on raising capital would also be helpful. |
Come to the general meetings and/or events and let your views be known. What a perfect day it was at the Menghini winery in Julian on May 17!! Too bad we didn't have more people join us (see picture above), but we who came had a wonderful time. We definitely are going to schedule the 7th Annual visit around the same time next year, and hopefully EVERYONE will be there! Mike's wine selection was outstanding, even if he was conspicuous by his absence, he and Toni having left for Italy the day before. Our scribe from Orange County, Greg Blake, put some thoughts on this event - and other things - down on paper, and his literary efforts begin on page 7. Thank you, Greg! Corning up in about two weeks, on June 28 is another classic SDVSA event - the Summer Swap Meet! Just turn the page for all pertinent information. Rumors are that we might have some guests from the Los Angeles Volvo clubs, so now may be the time for you to buy, trade or sell the hard to find parts that you've been looking for - or tried to get rid of. Let's have a big show of members - and Volvo parts! We finally received more ads, but we can still use more. Remember, they are free to all paid-up members. Articles about you and/or your Volvo are also eagerly anticipated! You are the Club!! |
