HAPPY NEW YEAR !

Eleven intrepid members, and one potential joiner, braved the cold weather to attend the SDVSA General Meeting held on December 12. The meeting room was even colder than the parking lot, where several 1800s and Amazons were gathered. However, it did not take us long to generate enough hot air to warm up the room to a comfortable level!

We received three more entries for our SDVSA Source List. These are names of repair centers, which some of our members have been happy with, and recommend. Kurt Sievert, our membership coordinator, and fine fellow like he is, decided to mail every member an updated source list this month, so look for that in your mail-box in the next couple of weeks.

Due to a career change, which has him working nights, Rick Brulé had to resign as our club's representative to the Car Club Council at the Auto Museum. We thank Rick for a job extremely well done! We also thank Mark Jankowski for volunteering to replace Rick, taking time out from his very busy schedule.

Our newest member Richard Hunt, who just joined up at the meeting, pulled Casey Moore's name out of the hat as the winner of $58.50 in Bob Skoog's 50/50 Raffle. Casey also was our winner last May! Unfortunately, he was not present at either meeting, so, according to the rules, his winnings go back into the pot.

As mentioned in the December issue of 1800 NEWS, SDVSA held a spectacular Holiday Party on Sunday, December 9 at Bud and Christine Hartwell's Car Barn!

Our "Member-of-the-Year" award was presented to Bob Skoog, who unfortunately, for medical reasons, could not attend. Bob has been an ardent supporter of the new (post 1992) SDVSA, attending most meetings and events. He has also served as our club treasurer since 1995. Bob is always very helpful to people whom own classic Volvos, and has been able to recruit many members by his good will. He also has a great reputation for ferreting out hard to come by parts, and lending valuable advice. For some excellent photos taken by Jeff Perry of - and some words from our president, Russ Orrell about - this 21st Holiday celebration, turn to page 5.

The next event on our schedule (see page 3) is the Tech Session at Bob Workman's European Auto, on Sunday, January 20. This is just the latest in the series of annual tech sessions, which have always been very informative due to Bob's expertise in all aspects of Volvo mechanical maintenance and repairs. We are very fortunate to have Bob as a member of our club, and every member should make an effort to come to this event, and get acquainted with Bob and Cindy Workman - and several of our other staunchest and knowledgeable members. For more information about this session, just turn the page.

The year 2002 marks 75 years of Volvo cars! You can be sure that there are going to be celebrations by Volvo of North America, and others. We hope to bring you all the pertinent information of these special events through this newsletter. In the meantime, make a new-year's resolution to become more active in your Volvo club by attending more meeting and events!
