Happy New Year!
The SDVSA Christmas Party on the l3th of December was a resounding success due in large measure to our genial hosts, Ed and Betty Huston, who made everyone feel like family in their beautiful home. Attendance of our members appeared to hit a new high, as we counted nine 1800s lined up around the cul-de-sac, parked perpendicular to the curb, and, of course, other Volvos and "lesser" vehicles, belonging to members with more persons and things to carry. Everyone brought ample provisions and the club furnished a turkey and a ham (thanks to Bob and Del Skoog for cooking the ham!), and various side dishes - but we forgot the club coolers with the sodas and beer! That situation was quickly remedied by Ed making a quick sortie to the local liquor store. (Our master Volvo story teller, Gene Bellegarde, will provide us with some further insights into the proceedings, but we have to wait until next month's newsletter due to some strange circumstances). Many thanks from the entire club go to Ed and Betty for a great time had by one and all!! Any volunteers to host next year's bash? At our general meeting on December 9, we assigned four members to investigate sources and costs for window decals and T-shirts using our club logo. Hopefully, we'll soon get something going on that. There was no winner of Bob Skoog's 50/50 raffle because no name tags were available, but the jack pot is again approaching $50! Why don't you come and try your luck? |
In case you missed it in December's 1800 NEWS, as of January 1, 1999, the membership fee for the San Diego Chapter of Volvo Sports America (SDVSA) is now $20. Please take a moment to look at your address label to find out if your subscription has expired, and if it has, please send a check payable to SDVSA to Kurt Sievert at the address in The Box on page 3. And, while you're at it, take another moment to look for any information that would be of interest to the rest of our club, and send it to the editor of this newsletter, Goran Freske, at one of the addresses in "the box." Well, it's official! Irv Gordon's '66 1800S is now in The Guinness Book of Records as the car with the highest mileage (page 5)! Our next scheduled club event takes place on January 21. As shown on the next page, it is a dinner meeting at Kooky's 50s-style Diner , starting at 6:30 p.m. This restaurant caters to car enthusiasts, and serves a wide variety of popular American foods. So bring the wife and kids, friends, etc. and come and join us for a good time,-- and possibly some Volvo talk! Also, Dell Skoog is working hard on February's Temecula Wine Tour. This event is rapidly becoming a major SDVSA yearly event, so don't miss out on that! And please look at proposed schedule on page 3. Let us know if you would like to add an event which is not on the list. |
