Twelve members attended the SDVSA General Meeting on March 10th. That represents 20% of our current 60 paid-up memberships, which is outstanding! The plans for the VSA West Coast Meet being hosted this year by the SDVSA September 10 through 12 right here in San Diego, are slowly taking shape. Jeff Perry presented us with a draft of a flyer containing general information and the meet application to be circulated in as many pertinent publications as possible. The first part of the final product of Jeff’s efforts is presented on page 9. Promotional products gathering and commitments by commercial establishments are going to be led by Kurt Sievert. If you can lend any help, please contact Kurt at the addresses in ”The Box” on the Schedule of Events page. Gene Bellegarde, coordinator of this event, is also looking for: 1) Folks to solicit give-away prizes. If you can help out in any of these areas, please come to the SDVSA General Meeting so we can agree on the exact definition of your task. Richard Pattee, long standing member of the SDVSA, was the winner of Bob Skoog’s 50/50 Raffle, with $76 as prize money. And Richard was actually present at the meeting, so he walked away with the cash! Congratulations, Richard!! The next pot is going to start out with $76 / 2 = $38, which is no small amount either! According to the rules, the club retains $38. |
----------------NEWS FLASH ! ------------- Irv Gordon, the man with 2.2+ million miles on his 1966 1800S, has confirmed that he will attend the National VSA West Coast Meet, being hosted by the SDVSA in San Diego! -------------------------------------------------------- One of the premiere Volvo events in Southern California, sponsored by Bill Webb’s So. Cal. VSA, took place on Sunday, March 21 at the Westside Volvo dealership in Culver City. Unfortunately, at least three local members of the SDVSA who had made plans to attend, could not make it for various reasons… which you really don’t want to hear about. However, on page 9 is a tale inspired by this event, which is almost unbelievable, is well composed by Greg Blake. April’s SDVSA event is Mark Jankowski’s famous San Diego East County Tour, which takes place on Saturday, April 24. Final plans, meeting places and times are presented on pages 2 and 3. With two months notice, we hope that a whole lot of you made plans to attend, and we expect to see hoards of Volvoholics! Although it’s an “off” month for the SDVSA, May is going to be busy for California Volvo aficionados. On Sunday 2, the VCOA is hosting a Car Show and Swap Meet in Davis, CA., and the next day (Monday), Volvos are going ”racing” at the Thunderhill racetrack! ipd in Portland, OR, probably the world’s largest independent supplier of Volvo parts and accessories, is holding their Annual Garage Sale on Saturday 15. And, for all our local “I Rollers”, don’t forget the 39th Annual Fallbrook Vintage Car Show on Sunday 30, with the Volvo contingent coordinated by Dave Hunt’s OCVC. The next scheduled SDVSA event is its participation in the San Diego Auto Museum Car Club Council’s Car Show on Saturday, June 5. More about that later. |
