We hope that some of you did not go to the Auto Museum expecting to attend the March 13 SDVSA General Meeting. For a change - which was well advertised - the meeting was held at the "home of the famous Steer Burger" - the Boll Weevil restaurant on Clairemont Mesa Blvd. Twelve of our compadres indulged in a high cholesterol meal and the History Channel's version of the saga of the Volvo Company.

The winner of the $60 in Bob Skoog's 50/50 raffle was Lara-Mia Phillips, who, unfortunately, couldn't attend this meeting, and thus the money goes back into the pot for another lucky meeting attendee to win.

Because of previous commitments on conflicting dates, Mark Jankowski resigned the position as the SDVSA's representative to the Auto Museum Car Club Council. We thank Mark for his well-intended effort, in the face of the tyranny of time. We were fortunate, however, in that Richard Pattee attended the meeting, and volunteered for the job! Congratulations, too, are in order for Richard for completing his college studies in a Herculean struggle, which called for a long-term commitment of time and effort.

The "surprise" OCVSA's Fourth Birthday Party on Sunday, March 17, was attended by a surprising number of Volvo owners, taking the uncertainty factor into account. We had around 18 Volvos of various types, including a beautiful black C70 coupe, and around 22 owners and friends. Only one car made it up from San Diego to represent the SDVSA. The birthday cake was served at about 12:30, and the guests began to drift away after that. Although it wasn't raining, the weather was blustery, so nobody felt inspired to visit the aircraft museum at March Airforce Base. This was the last Volvo club event at the present location of Swedish Speed. Mark Yarborough told us that his new facility is located close to the downtown district of Perris, and sports a 17,000 square foot building space, vs. 11,400 square foot, which is the size of his current shop. He is looking forward to hosting the OCVSA Annual All Volvo Car Show at the new store this
coming

October 22nd (see page 5 for the events schedule).

Mark Jankowski's famous East San Diego County Tour is coming up on Sunday, April 21. Don't miss this educational and exciting trip through the wild area east of San Diego led by Mark, who is an expert at finding interesting and out of the way places to see. This year once again the tour is taking place in the northern environs of San Diego County, to give our members to the north another chance to participate. (Last year, it was snowing!). Turn the page for more information as to times and meeting places.

On Sunday, April 28, VCOA is holding its West Coast meet in Davis, CA.; and on April 29, they will hold their Track Day at Thunderhill Raceway. Bob Skoog and Dave Barton are planning to join the fray at the track. The field of 60 entrants has been filled already, so good luck to Bob and Dave!

It was a long time in the making, but the San Diego Auto Museum Car Club Council Car Show finally is taking hold. Saturday, May 11, between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., is the time designated for their 3rd Annual show in the museum parking lot. Last year, they attracted more than 70 cars - but only one classic Volvo, a '64 1800. We won no prizes, but created quite a stir with the windshield placard, which read in part - "daily driver…over 360,000 miles"! This year, let's have more VSA Volvos - with even higher mileage!

To make the 37th Fallbrook Classic Car Show on Sunday, May 26, even more appealing to SDVSA, OCVSA, and So. Cal. VSA members, Darwyn Lumley is working on accommodating our cars into an existing, or creating a new, class. Let's support Darwyn, and the SDVSA, with at least five entries. All the information about the show is given on pages 5. Please fill out the application form and send it in before the deadline. This is one of the biggest and oldest car shows in the North County, and, if you like classic automobiles, you won't be disappointed!
